Life

Chris Stevens, an artistic heritage

A jazz singer and painter, Chris Stevens, Jeane Manson's mother, was a source of inspiration for her.

A jazz singer

Born in the United States, Chris Stevens joined the USO tours at 23 and sang with the quartet of Louis Prima, the jazz composer and musician. She performed notably in Germany and France, then continued with Louis Prima and his orchestra in New York.

In Mexico

In Mexico she sang on television with a jazz orchestra and recorded several records for RCA Records. Jeane Manson has released an album titled “Back When” in digital form.

Painting

Throughout her life, Chris Stevens painted in an impressionist style. Jeane keeps several of her works. Jeane has always been inspired by her parents' talent: a mother who sang and painted, a father who wrote and produced.

Portraits and gardens

Chris Stevens worked in oils, watercolour and acrylics. Her surviving works include portraits of Jeane, landscapes and garden scenes. The portrait in a yellow blouse shown here is an oil painting from 1981.

A life of exhibitions

Her exhibition history connects California, France and New York State: Quorum Gallery in Laguna Beach, the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and galleries in Cornwall and Newburgh. She also exhibited at the French National Assembly in Paris in 1994.
